Now, after beating the game, I can write without remorse that the engine driving this title is fight and action. Although with the latter it is different, but in turn.
Evil West is struggling, which is no secret, because even promotional materials hit such strings. It’s also no secret that production is remarkably linearand exploration limited to necessary minimum. Is it wrong?
On the one hand, no, because I’m not in the habit of deleting these types of games. On the other hand, as a lover Wild Westmy sandbox instinct took over and wanted to explore quite atmospheric locations. Not here and not to this extent, although some views can be genuinely pleasing.
But it is a beast
Don’t let the appearance of the main character fool you. At first glance, he’s not as nimble as Aloy, but that’s just appearances. You know, Jessie seems like the guy who has everything under control, and his trigger finger won’t even twitch in a tense situation. Once we start the process of utilizing the monsters, Jessie turns into a beast.

I mentioned that Evil West stands for “fight and action” and I have a problem with the latter. Well, it’s a bit of a silly thing, but apart from the combat itself, there’s not much to do here. And no, I don’t mean that the level structure is linear. I don’t mean that exploration is rudimentary, even within linearity you can create something nice.
Problem with Evil West is that you can count the moments of action on the fingers of a blind lumberjack’s hand, not a fight in and of itself. It happened literally a few times when we were traveling carefree in a cheerful wagon and we had to do something. And where are the convoy protection tasks? Where’s some daring escape? Where are the tasks “escort a freed NPC”? No, come on, not that much! But anything to give you a break…
This is clearly missing here. Yes, there are environmental puzzles, but they are so simple that they might as well not be there. So we’re just fighting? Oh no. Key plot moments are varied with cutscenes and I can honestly say that I haven’t missed a single one. They are just great.
Lore Evil West
It pulled me out of the arms of monotony lore Evil West. We get information about the world from small findsentries from our knowledge compendium and those mentioned cutscenes. A small note here. Can Evil West enchant with its graphics and locations?
As I mentioned before, some views have the right to please. It is also impossible to deny the climate of some locations, which I tried to capture on the screenshots. The effects related to attacking with our gauntlet look great; she likes electricity very much, a the discharges are spectacular. Is it yet Evil West or already InFamous?
It looks worse when we talk about the physics of water or environmental effects such as rain. There’s no rage. Fortunately, we are more focused on combat than on the anatomy of water drops.
I complained a bit about Evil Westbut in the end I had a lot of fun. So much so that I’m considering starting new game+and maybe even co-op modewhich I haven’t been able to check yet. The work of the Polish studio proved itself as a stepping stone from big open-world games. This is how it was supposed to be from the very beginning and this is the product we get. And while I complain about the lack of activity other than the combat itself, it Evil West it pretty much did its job. I just missed that; a linear adventure with hordes of enemies that does not cause “marker neurosis”.
