PlayStation 6 release date? Information from an official document

We may have just learned the release date of PlayStation 6. From the document that talks about the details of Activision Blizzard games for Sony consoles, we can conclude when the next generation of equipment will hit the market.

In the document, a fragment of which was posted on Twitter by gaming industry analyst Piers Harding-Rolls, we can read that Microsoft has offered Sony to publish games for PlayStation, which it acquired this year, Activision Blizzard until 2027. Call of Duty instead, it is to be released on Japanese consoles “as long as it makes sense”, i.e. probably until 2027 or even shorter.

The document goes on to say that by the time Sony launches the next generation of PlayStation consoles, the company will lose access to Call of Duty and other Activison titles, which is expected to translate into a decrease in the PS6’s competitiveness.

So if you put all the information in this paragraph together, you can expect that the censored date that indicates when the PlayStation 6 will hit the market is probably 2027 or 2028. This would explain why the exclusivity of Activision Blizzard games from 2027 would be a big blow to Sony.

Considering when subsequent Sony consoles were launched on the market (PlayStation – 1994, PlayStation 2 – 2000, PlayStation 3 – 2006, PlayStation 4 – 2013, PlayStation 5 – 2020), the turn of 2027 and 2028 seems quite likely when it comes to the premiere of next-gen consoles.

However, these are, of course, guesses, and we do not know what date is actually in the censored document. Perhaps due to the slow start of the modern generation, Sony will decide to extend the life cycle of PlayStation 5 and we will see its successor only in 2029.
